Sex Education Evaluation Project
The Sex Education Evaluation Project is a yearly evaluation contracted by the Alabama Department of Public Health Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Branch. This evaluation examines the effectiveness of two teen pregnancy prevention and sex education programs: the Alabama Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP) and the Alabama Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE) Program.

Performance Measures
Performance measures are the surveys created by SRAE and PREP to be administered prior to and at the conclusion of their respective programs. While specific question items vary between curriculum types, both SRAE and PREP administer the entry surveys to each youth on the first session they attend and exit surveys on the last day of programming. The entry surveys aim to measure baseline behaviors regarding sexual activity and other risk behaviors including drinking and drug use. Exit surveys are designed to measure change in participant perceptions resulting from the program.

Retrospective Measures
The retrospective survey is a self-report, retrospective, pre/post survey given at the program's conclusion. Designed by Dr. Duke-Marks and colleagues, the questionnaire asks youth to reflect on their beliefs’, knowledge, behavioral intent, and level of confidence before the program, and then answer these questions after they have been exposed to the program.
The questionnaire included twenty-three questions to assess knowledge, beliefs, behavioral intent, and confidence. There were also four demographic questions including age, grade, race and sex.
